What is a SemiFlexible Coaxial Cable

Time:2025-08-28Viewed:()

Definition

A semiflexible coaxial cable is a type of RF transmission line positioned between semirigid coaxial cables and flexible coaxial cables. Its mechanical design is more stable than that of flexible cables, yet less rigid than semirigid ones. Typically, it can be bent into the required shape during initial installation and then retain that form, while still offering a certain degree of adjustability. This makes it suitable for applications that demand both signal integrity and practical installation.

Materials

  1. Inner Conductor: Often made of solid silverplated copper rods or wires, ensuring low resistance and stable conductivity.

  2. Insulation: Commonly uses PTFE or lowloss foamed dielectric materials to maintain dielectric constant and impedance consistency.

  3. Shielding: Constructed with braided copper or metallic tape layers to enhance electromagnetic shielding.

  4. Outer Jacket: Typically metal or composite sheathing, providing both mechanical strength and moderate flexibility.

Characteristics

  1. Formability: Once bent, it can hold its shape, making it ideal for fixed routing.

  2. Stable Performance: Exhibits low attenuation and precise impedance in highfrequency applications.

  3. Balanced Rigidity and Flexibility: More stable than flexible cables, yet easier to install than semirigid cables.

  4. Strong Shielding: Effectively minimizes external electromagnetic interference.

  5. Environmental Resistance: Certain models offer hightemperature and corrosion resistance for demanding environments.

Applications

  1. Communication Equipment: Used in RF modules, base stations, and microwave systems.

  2. Radar and Navigation: Ensures lowloss transmission of highfrequency signals.

  3. Testing Systems: Provides reliable interconnections in laboratories and measurement equipment.

  4. Aerospace: Applied in electronic systems requiring high reliability and formable routing.

  5. Medical Devices: Transmits highfrequency signals in RF imaging and diagnostic equipment.
